Intravenous sedation
What is intravenous sedation?
Intravenous sedation is a technique that involves administering medication intravenously to calm the patient during dental treatment. It significantly reduces stress and anxiety.
This method is ideal for:
- Patients suffering from dental anxiety or phobias.
- Complex or lengthy treatments.
- Severe gag reflexes.
- A relaxed and comfortable experience.
Before the procedure
Fast. The dentist will tell you how many hours you must refrain from eating and/or drinking before the procedure, depending on the sedative that will be used (on average 4 to 6 hours).
Special considerations
- The patient must be accompanied home, as they will not be able to drive for 12 hours after the procedure.
- They should rest for the rest of the day and avoid physical exertion.
